COVID-19 Tracking App

MY ROLE

About Project

Just as we have come to terms with HIV, we must acknowledge that COVID-19 will not magically disappear until we find a way to get vaccines available to public. However, with vaccine availability still more than a year away, it is crucial to have an effective COVID-19 tracker to help further stop the spread of the virus. As states are prematurely easing social distancing restrictions, it is imperative to get an effective COVID-19 tracker to help further stop the spread of the virus and let public become more proactive in protecting themselves and their loved ones.

Many other organizations are trying their best to roll out a more effective and easy-to-use COVID-19 tracker app. Currently, apps such as Apple COVID-19, HEALTHYLYNKED, and Healthy Together offer health screening, contact tracing, COVID-19 updates and information, and access to testing services.

Pivot COVID-19 will stand out from other apps by combining all of the above features in one app. Also, this app will use Bluetooth to track other patients and alert users when they come in close proximity.

UX Challenges

One of the main considerations I took into account when creating the information architecture was to make the app easy and intuitive to use and accessible by a wide range of users, including older adults who are traditionally seen as non-tech savvy.

Creating a sense of trust and reliability was also crucial as the app enables Bluetooth tracking to alert users about potential exposures to the virus. Singapore and Australia are already using this method of contact tracking to combat the virus. Fortunately, this technology is much less invasive compared to the method used in South Korea and Israel which uses a centralized database system. Although the Bluetooth tracking function could help stop the spread of the virus, there are still questions remain regarding privacy and security.

Visual Design

Visual design aims to create a friendly and comforting tone for users who are experiencing anxiety during these troubled times. To achieve this, colorful mid-tones are used with consistency, and illustrations are widely implemented throughout the app.

UX Solutions

To tackle the challenges of having a wide range of users, I focused on creating an information architecture that accommodates everyone's needs. And the outcome is an iOS, Android, and WatchOS version of the app that is comprehensive, yet simple and easy to use with helpful visual elements.

To address user privacy concerns, the app includes an option to disable Bluetooth tracking. A more detailed explanation of this feature is displayed on the account screen to reiterate my commitment to user privacy. Furthermore, a delete account option is available for those who want complete privacy.
